Rain Water Harvesting

The height of the roof of our house is less than 8 feet, Can’t we build a rain water harvesting tank?

Although the height of your roof is less than 8 feet, it is quite possible to build a rain water harvesting tank of your own. There are 2 methods that you can follow in building a rain water harvesting tank:

  • The rain water harvesting tanks are normally built on 11/2 to 2 feet high base. In this case the tank can be built without the 1foot high secondary base to provide required space to accommodate a pot to draw water from the tank, or
  • Digging a pit near the outlet tap to accommodate a pot to draw water from the tank.

However, the removal of secondary base may expose the primary base to erosion and affect the stability of the tank. This could be prevented if secondary base was available. Although digging a pit near the outlet tap to accommodate a pot cause difficulties in drawing water, it is the only system that can be recommended for this type of facility.
